Worktops and Vanities celestialindia

INTRODUCTION celestialindiaAs an alternative to man-made materials, stone can make an unusual and attractive surface in both domestic and commercial applications. Kirkstone and Brathay are suitable for heavily used areas such as kitchens and bar tops. We recommend that all worksurfaces are sealed to help prevent etching and simplify maintenance.
PRODUCTION DETAILS
Kirkstone celestialindia  and Brathay can be supplied in thicknesses of 20, 30 and 40mm. When considering what thickness to use visual appearance is the overriding factor, although the weight of may need to be calculated to ensure the frame is not overloaded. Maximum slab sizes can vary and will have some bearing on the positioning of cut-outs, fittings etc. Where joints are required in a single worksurface these are normally made as tight butt joints ready for bonding on site (see Installation guidelines below). To complement the worksurface, Kirkstone are able to supply a range of accessories such as upstands (plain or coved), fascias and splashbacks as well as hand turned cabinet knobs.
INSTALLATION
Kirkstone celestialindia and Brathay have a high degree of lateral strength and may be installed safely by simply fixing directly to the frame, providing there is support at a maximum of 600mm centres. A dry run in fitting the stone is always recommended and minor adjustment to the slab or frame can be made prior to the application of any adhesive. At all times attention must be paid to the safe handling of the slab and the protection of exposed and butting edges. In general, bonding the stone to the frame or sub base with a suitable silicone based adhesive will adequately restrain the worksurface. For added security, mechanical fixings may be used such as glued in threaded inserts or studs. Prior to bonding of abutting edges it is recommended that the surface on either side of each joint is masked with tape to a minimum width of 50mm. One edge only should be buttered with the adhesive. Once the mating edges have been correctly aligned any excess adhesive should be scraped off immediately. To avoid any lipping at the joints great care must be taken in levelling each surface. If desired, a small bevel can be machined onto the top arris of each abutting edge, creating a small vee joint which helps to take up any minor variance in height between the surfaces as they become one.
ONWARD USE
In kitchens celestialindia and serveries stone should not be subjected to high temperatures or it may crack. Hot pans and dishes straight from the oven or hob should be placed on trivets or stainless steel factory fitted heat rods. Stone should never be used as a hot plate in servery counters. Maintenance is quite simple, wipe with a damp cloth and a little mild detergent. Ongoing care is described in full in the maintenance section.
TEMPLATING
Kirkstone offers a full bespoke templating service. For further details contact the sales office. The manufacture of finished worktops can be carried out from fully dimensioned drawings. For complex, curved and shaped work, hard templates are required for guaranteed accuracy. Additionally, CAD information is acceptable for use on our state-of-the-art processing equipment.
